In this article I would like to discuss the importance of changing a humidifier water pad.
A humidifier water panel should be changed between 1 and 4 times per year depending on the water condition. The humidifier pad needs to check on both sides monthly.
This often overlooked task can result in:
Small amounts to no humidity being supplied to your home.
Clogging of humidifier drain lines, which could cause water overflow, or flooding.
95% of all humidifier drain lines tie into the air conditioners evaporator coil condensation drain. That being said, it also is causing blockage, and creating a water problem for the air conditioner when it is time to turn it on.
Hard wood floor separating,splitting and all wood in your home shrinking and cupping.
Chipping paint and plaster.
Dryness
Annoying shocks from static electricity
Itchy, dry skin
Always feeling “too cold” despite normal thermostat settings
Irritated sinuses and sore throats
Static cling problems with clothing and blankets
The good news that changing your humidifier pad will help reduce the above symptoms.
I would also like to mention that just because the front of your water panel looks good you should remove it and check both sides. Below is an example of a used water panel from the front then back. Below that is an example of a new panel. From looking at the front of the panel, I would change it. After looking at the back I would say I should have changed it months ago.
Above the front is clearly deteriorating, but the back is completely clogged. Below is what a new filter should look like.
